Rising Hope Bakery is supported by two state-of-the-art commercial kitchens where women receive professional culinary arts training, complete apprenticeships, and secure employment. The bakery creates delicious product-to-market items that help fund onsite employment opportunities for women facing extreme poverty.

Housed in Zaman’s 40,500 square-foot Hope for Humanity Center in Inkster, the Rising Hope Bakery helps anchor vocational arts and workforce development programming. Alongside Zaman’s Good Deeds Resale Shop, Client-Choice Food Pantry and Literacy and Sewing Centers, the bakery is central to efforts to provide holistic client-centric services including everything from food and clothes to entrepreneurship training and onsite employment opportunities.

Our Story

“These wonderful women are so eager to learn and provide for their families — it’s inspiring. Teaching them to bake professionally was just one of the ways that we could empower them to overcome poverty.A bakery is a place of hope and possibility, and the delicious cookies and resilient women who bake them warm our hearts.

About Zaman International

Zaman started out of the back of a nurse’s van in 1996, as our founder and humanitarian Najah Bazzy drove around the Detroit area delivering food and basic necessities to those in need in immigrant and refugee communities.

Today, Zaman International serves women and children facing extreme poverty. We have grown from those early grassroots days into a respected non-profit that has helped change the lives of over 300,000 people in Southeast Michigan and more than 2.5 million around the world.

Our work targets the barriers to opportunity and empowers women to break the cycle of poverty as they journey from crisis to sustainable employment and create a brighter future for their entire household.
